CLIMATE:

During the growing season, Napa Valley temperatures range from cool in the south (Carneros) to quite warm in the north (Calistoga). St. Helena is located in the heart of the Valley – a region that is considered the ideal ripening zone for Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties. A typical summer day in St. Helena starts with a cool overcast morning, leading to a warm/hot afternoon, and finishing with a cool clear evening.

SOILS:

Cortina Soil Series, Cortina Very Gravelly Loam. The Cortina series consists of excessively drained soils on flood plains and alluvial fans. These soils formed from recent stratified alluvium. The surface is pale brown, neutral very gravelly loam to about 11” and a light brownish gray, mildly alkaline very gravelly sandy loam in the lower 10”. The underlying material to a depth of 60” or more is stratified, light brownish gray, mildly alkaline very gravelly loamy sand. Permeability is rapid. The effective rooting dept is 60” or more. Available water capacity is 2” to 5”.

WINE CHARACTERISTICS:

Trinchero’s Lewelling is textbook benchland Cab. It is packed with earth, cedar and cassis and has the power and structure to improve with age.
