2004 Stagecoach Stagecoach Cabernet Sauvignon
VINEYARD INFORMATION AND HISTORY
The 500 acre Stagecoach Vineyard is located on the Eastern Hills of the Napa Valley appellation. Incredible views and dramatic cliffs are almost as awe inspiring as the wines produced from the mountain vineyards. Started by the Krupp brothers in the early 90’s, the vineyard plays host to a small group of wineries and provides the grape source to over 40 others. Over the past couple of years a great number of high quality wines scoring 90+ points (Wine Spectator’s 100 point scale) have been produced from the mountain fruit such as the ZD Reserve and the Paul Hobbs Stagecoach Vineyard Designate. Acclaimed wineries including, Chappellet, Pahlmeyer, Fisher, Cardinale, and Dunn, just to name a few, all use the grapes from this esteemed vineyard for additions to their Napa Valley Blends.
WINEMAKING
The free-run juice and grapes were fermented using the rack-and-return method (delestage) favored by leading Bordeaux chateaux. In addition to increasing color and flavor, this process allows for the removal of seeds, which reduces astringency and produces more supple tannins. The wine was then aged eighteen months in French oak barrels.
WINEMAKER NOTES
The long warm days and cool nights of the Stagecoach vineyard produce deep ruby red Cabernet Sauvignons of ripe blackberry, plum and cassis while maintaining balanced acidity and a velvety lasting finish.
CHEF NOTES
This wine can be enjoyed on its own or complement a variety of dishes such as roasted meats, Duck Bolognese and any hard aged cheese.
